To live contrary to The Truth of God's Word is direct disobedience and denial to deal with ones problems and face the truth. So what truth am I talking about? Well first I am talking about our problems. These behaviors above is a cover and a mask for what the truth is in our lives so we choose to cover, our hurts, repressed emotions and our emotional pain with these behaviors.
Many have been taught from birth or have seen from birth that life is just too hard. And living in the real world they just aren't able to cope. From a young age they have seen to much, witnessed too much which was not only scary and overwhelming they just have no coping skills. Young children are not prepared to handle the real world. When new things are introduced they are impressionable and haven't been taught how to say no or have no idea what can happen to them as a result of their eagerness for adventure. In other words they aren't given a choice or taught how to make an informed decision. And their only source of reference in life and how to be is by watching others, observing others behaviors and doing the same things.
Children mimic what they see. If they are around others who continue to do the wrong things in life or are around unsuccessful people they become exactly like them following them as their examples and role models. Because they are too young to handle the real world, and aren't old enough to make informed decisions, and have been taught no coping skills for life they too slip easily into addictions that in time ruins their lives. The damage done to them by the time they realize what their behavior has been about in these addictions often is too late in saving their lives. Their organs, their minds, and their thinking processes are gone or seriously impaired from ever being able to function normally.
So what are Addictions? They are developed to mask the real issues in our lives. And they are an artificial way to maintain one's self. As long as we allow our minds to be filled with fear, anxiety, confusion, avoidance and remain preoccupied we will not be able to function in the real world. Our emotions will continue to control us.
All addictions are rooted in the need to be loved. Although cocaine is not chemically addictive cocaine is psychologically and spiritually addictive and it brings in spirits into our lives we do not want that take over our lives. Cocaine is equivalent to a massive orgasm. In marriage when partners are not sexually satisfied and they enjoy drugs cocaine becomes their drug of choice to make up for their need of sexual satisfaction. What people don't understand about cocaine is that it is not the drug that gives them the fix or satisfaction they are seeking it is the dopamine being released that gives them the biological fix so in a need to get more they repeat taking the drug which eventually leads them to becoming highly tormented. Instead of seeking the drug they should be seeking their spouse. It is their spouse who is responsible for providing their sexual satisfaction.
Low serotonin causes people many times to feel unloved, unwanted and as though they don't matter to anyone. Often their ambition is diminished as well and they are tired a lot. Smoking is rooted in a lack of self-esteem and insecurity and the need to be loved. Excessive eating is a result of not feeling good about yourself. Have you ever meant people who live to eat? Why? This is the only activity they enjoy that gives them comfort and pleasure. Addictions can come in any form and are for always the same reasons. The bottom line to all of them is that people think they can do a better job on their own to fix their problems rather than allowing God into their lives and believing that he is their sufficiency.
There are no cures for people experiencing these types of emotions and acting out in addictions. The best the medical field can offer are drugs to help people manage themselves or the 12 step program. Our God wants us to live free and at peace. Therefore, the only things we should want are eradication and prevention. What we need to learn to do is rip our selves of our masks and rid ourselves of living in hypocrisy thinking that we are somehow smarter than our Creator.
The Word surrender means that you give yourself up, unto the power of another and yield oneself to the power and authority of God recognizing that you are nothing without God for it is in your very breath you take each moment of each day you have the opportunity to live. You are nothing then but a container for another which is God. When I need strength in my life I turn to the one who lives within me. I am his vessel, his temple, his home, his workmanship, and his masterpiece.
