Luke 1:3 But the angel said unto him, fear not, Zacharias; for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife - Elisabeth - shall bare thee a son, and thou shalt call him John.
We know angels do not speak in voice, telepathy is their form of communication. So Zacharias could of heard the voice in his head and mistook it for verbal conversation, or, the church was not ready and willing to commit to the concept of the paranormal and psychic abilities ~ such as telepathy ~ and this detail went untold. As an aside, the son, John, would later in life become known as John the Baptist. The story goes on to say in Luke 1:18-20,
Luke 1:18 And Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am and old man, and my wife well stricken in years.
Luke 1:19 And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God: and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew you these glad tidings.
Luke 1:20 And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and nat able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.
Now, here is where I have a problem. Angels are our guardians and protectors and under no circumstances do they ever harm or punish a human being. Therefor, I can not believe that this archangel, Michael would take Zacharias voice for having doubts. Like God, angels are divine and incorruptible. They are completely void of negative human emotion and behavior, yet we persistently insist on bringing the sparkling divine down to our muddy human level every chance we get.
Six months later, archangel Michael appears to Mary foretelling the birth of her son, Jesus ~ the Messiah. The entire conviction of a virgin birth hinges on one verse in the bible:
Luke 1:27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgins name was Mary.
Although the church has always focused on the word, "virgin" in this passage, the key word to me is "espoused". Which means to be engaged or married to a particular man. In this case it clearly names her husband as Joseph, of the house of David, and ancient and highly respected bloodline.
The story of the virgin birth came along a few hundred years later when the Christian church was trying to prove the divinity, strength and power of the Christian God was equal too or greater then the Greek and Roman gods of the time. Greek mythology is dominated by the virgin births of their gods and the Christian church had to prove their God worthy and capable of dominating the opposing gods of the time. The most important people to convince the worthiness of the Christian God were the ones in power. The leaders and rulers of the country. The government. It would be through these people Christianity would rise in popularity. Not by the will of the people, but by the demand of the rulers. Luke 1:32 further acknowledges that Jesus has a heavenly father, God, as we all do, as well as a mortal father, as we all do as well. "He shall be called the son of the Highest... He shall receive the throne of his father, David (house of David)". Now, being of royal bloodline, Joseph was never a poor carpenter ~ but was a master craftsman who built high quality furniture and ran a lucrative business employing as many as thirty men. Jesus was never a poor uneducated peasant ~ but lived a life of privilege, became educated and literate in a wealthy home of prestige.
Although the information is there, it is not commonly known that Jesus Christ and John the Baptist were cousins. They were brought up in the same family complex, born into a substantial family history steeped in a historical background of royalty, rulers, and religion. When each of these men incarnated to earth, they did it with a legion of Gods angel to protect them. For God knew they charted a difficult and turbulent life that required extra protection. The one and only thing that an angel can not protect you from is your destiny. When our mortal time clock runs out and it is our time to return Home to the Other Side, angels do not protect our bodies from their mortal demise, but they do escort our souls safely Home. Keeping Gods word that we all return Home safe and sound.
I thank God for my angels everyday. Now that I understand they are here for us and the many ways they can help us, I call on them when I feel I need their help or comfort. I suggest you read more about angels ~ there are many wonderful books available to help us learn more about these divine entities. Once you discover their purpose in your life, you can learn to use them as you need them. Call on them, they will come. Ask God for more, and He will send them. The angels are among us, every where we go.
