How many times have you heard the word ''Armageddon?'' and how many times have you seen translations of it depicted in films? Well. I am going to tell you about the real meaning of Armageddon, the one spoke of in the Bible. You will need a lot of patience to continue to the end of this article because no one can just give a simple and brief explanation of something as important as this. I should also like to add, that everything I am about to write has come from the Bible and not from myself. It is not my translations but that of the Bible itself. The reason for this is because the Bible clearly states that anyone who ''adds'' or ''takes away'' from it will die, Revelation 22 verse 18 & 19.
If you have a Bible then use it to follow me. I do not use the ''King James'' version because there are errors in it that miss-translate but you can use it as a basic guide. The best Bible to use is the New World Translation, it's not a new one it's been around for many years and it's accurate. You will also notice that I use God's real name and you can check this in your Bible I believe it appears about 4 times in the King James version. In the original scrolls it was represented as YHWH, as they couldn't pronounce YHWH they then added the vowels and it became JEHOVAH. Just for the record I am not a “Jehovah's Witness” but I would be very proud to be one.
In The Beginning'
I'm sure that most of you know about the “creation'' account in Genesis, so I'm not going to go through that, what I am going to explain is the account of man's downfall, why we grow old and die, and why God is about to destroy all the wicked and disobedient people on this planet.
Every normal person desires life with good health. We also try to arrest the ageing process by taking pills and applying skin creams but nothing really works does it? It hurts us when we lose a loved one in death or have to watch them suffering in pain. Some people ask, ''was all of this part of God's original plan?'' The answer is NO! Well, ask yourself, would such a loving God put us through such torture by allowing us to suffer the pain of diseases, blindness, deafness, the agonies that old age brings and did he really make man to die? Again the answer is NO! All of this is man's doing NOT God's.
Adam and Eve were created ''perfect,'' without a defect in mind or body. (Deuteronomy 32 v 4 and Proverbs 10 v 22) They had the prospect of living forever. Infact, modern scientist know that the human body continually renews itself and say that under the right conditions it is capable of living forever, so what went wrong? The Bible gives us the answer.
Results Of Disobedience
When he created Adam and Eve they became part of his great family, which already included a great number of spirit creatures in Heaven including Jesus and Satan. Jehovah gave the human pair the ''gift of life'' but this gift was conditional, that is, it would continue to be theirs as long as they met the condition of loving obedience to their heavenly Father. They had to recognise God as their supreme ruler. Did they know this? YES, because Jehovah placed upon them a test that emphasised the seriousness of obedience. He said to Adam: ''From every tree of the garden you may eat but of the tree of knowledge of good and bad you must not eat from it, nor shall you touch it. For in the day you eat from it you will positively die'' (Genesis 2: 16,17). Some people think that this ''forbidden fruit'' was to do with sexual relations, not so, Jehovah told them to ''be fruitful and become many and fill the earth''
So why was this tree called ''the knowledge of good and bad'?'' Well, because as a result of God's command, it's fruit symbolised God's right to decide for his creatures what is ''good'' and what is ''bad'' for them. By taking this ''forbidden'' fruit meant that they were turning their backs on their heavenly Father and rejecting his divine guidance and they paid the price - DEATH. ''For in the day you eat from it you will die.'' This did not mean that they dropped dead on the actual day but at the end of their life span, which God had set for a thousand years and Adam was 930 years when he died. It was not a 24 hour day because ''a day with God is as a thousand years''
