Christians and Dancing

Perhaps a different perspective on the issue of dancing for Christians. What is the key for determining what is acceptable or not? I hope this helps some of you who are made to feel guilty.

Why Road Kill. Because so many of our personal thoughts are no better than that poor creature killed on our highways. Perhaps you have a thought like that, and it should be ran over.

When a youth, Boogie Woogie got real popular, later it was Jitter Bugging, then Rock and Roll.

All were condemned as works of the devil, designed to lead the Christians astray. Well, they didn't. That type of thinking deserves to be killed, but not the person.

Two things occur to me: God's favorite son of the Old Testament was David. He said David was after His own heart, yet David danced before the Living God, played musical instruments and rejoiced in the name of that same Lord. God still blessed him mightily.

The second thing: We naturally have innate feelings toward rhythm. A good beat is magical, even for the best of Christians. What God wants is not for we who claim to be Christian to fret about the fall of a fellow Christian traveler. Whow! Don't jump to the wrong conclusion. What he does want is for we to individually walk with Him in our daily lives, not just on Sunday. As we grow, we do become more like HIM. We have the reputation to the none Christian of being hypocrites, wonder why? The why is because often we do not walk the talk.

Do not fall into the trap as many Christians have. The secular world have developed many forms of dancing, so inherently evil in God's eyes. Some could be considered an extension of dances in which David may have participated in with God's approval. A waltz when done properly is a beautifully romantic dance, fairytale like. However, a dirty dance is hard core suggestive, no doubt of the intent of the partners, at least from the dance point of view. I believe this is not acceptable to God. It draws man's attention to the human body and away from God. A classic dance, most beautiful to watch and probably to those who can perform it correctly is the Tango. It was born for seduction, everything about it is the physical lust displayed to music. I love seeing it performed well, however, again I must say that God would and does not approve. The Belly Dance, again when performed properly is beautiful, but it too is seductive. I do not think it meets God's approval. What I am telling you is when a dance goes beyond the expression of music, and become an expression of the body it becomes an abomination to God. Rhythmically,

most dances are fun to perform, and if I were Satan, I too would make them so. Music, and its varied rhythms, is a universal language. Nearly all around, the world will respond to some degree to the many styles of music, like so will they respond to the dance interpretations of the music.

We are not to condemn all music as bad or all dancing as bad because there is the factor that Satan throws into the mix. We are spiritual people, not physical pawns. We born again people are not of this world, our loyalty, our devotion, our worship are all to be toward God the Father. To dance in His presence out of joy of worship is a form of devotion. To do the same thing to draw attention to ourselves is sinful. See the difference? It is not the dance which sins, it is our heart. So many people have been made to feel guilty because they responded to a beat, naturally, as if they had sinned. Shame on the critics, the judgmental, for they frown upon a God given attribute. You grow in the Lord, open your heart to His guidance and you will know, He will show you what He accepts as devotion, as worship, as praise, but He will also show you what offends Him. Paul tells us how to live:

2Cr 6:17-18 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean [thing]; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

Okay, to you non-Christians. You can stand on the side of the road just so long. You can feel safe because you do not put yourself out there to be ran over. We Christians fail for many reasons, but not finding Christ in our lives is not one of them. As long as you stand there, without Christ in your life, you "might" just as well be Road Kill. I invite you to believe, Christians are often failures, but Christ never fails-trust Him, not we so called Christians.

Until next time,

Agape Jerry
