Crucified Christ on the Map of Leyte

This sculptor reveals the image of the Crucified Christ as seen on the map of Leyte.

This is a 45-feet tall structure called "Crucified Christ and the Map of Leyte Pilgrim Monument" located on top of the Kanhuraw Hills in Tacloban City, Leyte. This structure was created by Nemiranda, one of the well-known sculptors in the country. He came to this place just to devotedly offer his services as a labor of love. This sculpture depicts an image of the Crucified Christ on front of the map of Leyte at the back. This made of concrete cement, fiberglass, and steel.

"In 1521, Ferdinand Magellan discovered the Philippines and held the first mass in the island of Limasawa in Southern, Leyte. In 1952, General Douglas MacArthur made true his promise through his famous words "I shall return" for him to save the country from invaders and set foot on the shore of Red Beach, Palo, Leyte.

Leyte is indeed blessed for being the gateway of Christianity and the liberation of the Philippines. The Lord Jesus must have planned it. The people are in search of paradise not knowing that they are standing on a blessed island, the sculpted image of Christ."

This is the exact message of the former Leyte Governor Remedios L. Petilla as engraved on the tablet placed on the foot of the sculpted Christ.

Furthermore, the sculptor Nemesio R. Miranda, Jr. (Nemiranda) said "Upon seeing the map of Leyte, I had visualized an image of a crucified man. The map of Leyte is indeed the crucified Christ."

To visit this place, you will take a plane ride from Manila to Tacloban through Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific. From the airport, you will take a taxi or jeepney ride going to the Kanhuraw Hills. It won't take you an hour to get here.
