Holy Mary, Mother of God?

Is Mary mother of God? You might be surprised to find out that scriptures support the idea.

The Virgin Mary, these days, always seems to be associated with Catholics. Many Christians, when you tell them about the Virgin Mary, believe you might be Catholic. Why don't the rest of us believe in her position in the Bible, and as the Mother of God? Or is she the mother of God, or just the mother of the Son of God.

Both is true, she is the mother of God, and the mother of the Son of God. But if she's the mother of God, wouldn't that make her superior than God? And didn't God said that He was before everything and everyone, and he has no beginning or end? Well yes, Mary is not the mother of God, the father. But since Jesus is God, that makes her the mother of God.

Before you try to understand this, let's analyze exactly what or who God is. Many of us just think that God is just one person and Jesus is only the Son of God. False. Read Genesis, actually the very first verse, where it says “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” The “GOD” here in Genesis one is the translation of “ELOHIM” in Hebrew. In fact, most of the Bible is written in Hebrew and Greek, while only a fraction of it is written in Arabic. I Hebrew, however, there are many ways you can say God.

There's El meaning God, one person. There is Eloah, which is the simple plural of El. Finally, there is Elohim, which is another plural form of El, but meaning God, two or more persons.

Where do we get Jehovah, then? Jehovah is translated from Yahweh, the covenant name of God. Many people believe that Jehovah is the Name of God, and that we should address Him as so. On the Contrary, Jehovah, or Yahweh, doesn't even occur once in the New Testament. In fact, the New Testament tells up that the Name of Jesus is the highest of all names, and that every knee should bow down, those heaven and earth. If the angels bow down to Jesus, would that mean they're worshiping Jesus?

According to the Bible, worshiping should only be made to God. But, in the New Testament, Jesus was worshiped, and accepted worship. Angels cannot accept worship. For instance, look in the book of Revelations. John, in many instances, bowed before the angel that was showing him the vision. The angel quickly told him to get up, and that only God is to be Praised and Worshiped.

Furthermore, prior to when Jesus ascended into heaven, He tells us that we should baptize in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. However, we cannot baptize in the name of Michael or Gabriel. Jesus reveals the Trinity one last time while on earth. One instance where claims to be God is in John 8:58, which reads “Jesus said to them, "I assure you: Before Abraham, I am."” Throughout the Old Testament, God reveals Himself as I AM. That is one of the names of God.

Jesus is God, but not the Father. God is three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The Father is not the Holy Spirit. God created the heavens and earth in Genesis. Jesus created the heaven and earth in Colossians 1:15-17. Genesis 1:26 says “the God said, "Let US make man in OUR image and OUR likeness."…”

The Bible tells us that Jesus is God, so then why do we not believe that Mary is the Mother of God? And don't you think Mary's in heaven? She was so pure, not because of what she did, she was made pure because of God's Grace, so that she might house the Holiest of all beings, Jesus. She remained faithful even with the apostles, according to Acts. But nothing about her death is every recorded. In fact, many believed she's assumed bodily into heaven at the end of her course.

Mary was chosen to be used by God for the most honorable role designated to a human being. Because she found favor with God, because of her purity, and because of her willing heart and obedience, she was chosen to be the conduit through which God the son took on human form. When visited by the angel, Mary was at first dumbfounded by the thought that she, a virgin, was to bear this Holy child, but then she said "I am the Lord's servant. May it be to me as you have said," (Luke 1:38).So while we Protestants do not consider Mary to have god-like status, ie. we do not pray to her nor expect her to interceed with God on our behalf(only Christ has that role, see Hebrews 4:38), Mary is highly regarded for her obedience. Even Christ in bodily form as her son did not consider her to be part of the Godhead with him (see Matthew 12:46-50 where He says that whoever does the will of the Father is my brother and sister and mother), but He respected her, was obedient to her, and made arrangements for her care while He was dying on the cross.

Hi, Karen
I'm glad you understand Mary's role in the Church
even though you dont agree with it, that's ok.
But consider, do you think moses is dead? I mean, spiritually.
take a look at Mark 9:4, there Jesus talked to Moses, who's been dead for ever, and Elias as well. Do you remember how Elias/Elijah died? Of course not, because he never died. He was translated, which means that he was assumed bodily into heaven.
We can agree that that creates a possibility for Mary.

So, if Moses is alive, isn't Mary alive as well? In Christ. Because God is not the God of the dead, but of the living. that's in Matthew 22:32. Now, if you go on to Romans 12:4-5, where we talk about the body of Christ. And Timothy tells us that, in Timothy 2:1-4, "I exhort therefore, that, first of all, suplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peacable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is GOOD and ACCEPTABLE in the sight of GOD our Saviour; who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the Truth."

And Revalation 5:8 says, "And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having everyone of them harps, and golden vials full of odours which are the prayers of saints."

Why would these elders have the prayers we've prayed? And then, they give it to GOD on our behalves...that's interceeding, dont you think?
