While I try not to judge others, I believe it is part of our nature as human beings. People are not confused by the gospel they are confused by the immoral actions of people who believe in the words written inside. This world does not need another politician, another angst-filled musician or more people strapping their own personal beliefs to the Bible and slowing down the message is inside, which is indeed flawless. Unfortunately we are imperfect ambassadors to something that is perfect.
In order to explain this statement, I have to point out a belief of Christianity that humans are broken. No matter how hard I want to do everything the Bible guides me to do, invariably somewhere along the way, I and everyone else who tries is going to mess it up. That is the idea of being caught in grace.
Now, I believe that everyone is equal before the eyes of God. So, I decided to add this quotation from an author named Les Giblin:
“…You cannot separate religion from human relations. Unless you believe there is a Creator who has endowed us with unalienable rights, with an innate worth, you cannot very well believe in people. Henry Kaiser said that you would automatically practice good human relations if you would remember that every individual is important, because every individual is a child of God.” (Giblin, The Art of Dealing with People)
So what does this mean? Well, it means that in God we are all created equal. If you do not believe in God, then where on the hierarchy of being better than someone else do you fall? Is it by the deeds you have done? How are these valued?
I am an egotist. I believe that I am the most important human being, because I am self-centered. But the fact still remains that I have more value for other people, because I can recognize their innate value. I make no claims to be perfect or to do everything the Bible says I should do. What I do believe is that I have been forgiven for my flaws by the blood of Jesus Christ. So whether you agree with me or not, feel free to throw mud at the wall and see if some of it sticks.
The real point of this short article is that I am a Christian…and you have value to me. I am not better than you, but we are equals. I will try not to judge you for your belief system, because it is not my place to judge. The question I really pose is…what if you are wrong? If you believe that we fell out of a tree and evolved from monkeys, then you probably did.
