During one of my church's communion services, my daughter who was then four years old made a very interesting statement. She looked at my wife and said, "I'm thirsty for the cup of salivation. Can I drink it now?" We have all taken communion, but have we really stopped to think about why we do this? I really liked it when she asked that question because, like so many other questions of hers, it started me thinking. We do this because of Jesus. Ephesians 1:7 states: "In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace." Jesus loves us very much. His love for us is so great he sacrificed his life so that our sins would be forgiven and so we could be with Him and our Heavenly Father for eternity. In order for us to do this, we must remember why we observe communion. We need to remember how Jesus Christ sacrificed his life for us after he let himself be brutally beaten, almost to death.
Communion helps us to remember what He did for us, the price He paid, and what we have to look forward to.
