It is in Christ That We Find Out Who We are

Sometimes, it can be hard to figure out who we are and what we are here for. Well, if we were created by the God Almighty, we would find the answers to those questions when we ask Him.

“It is in Christ that we find out who we are” - Ephesians 1:11

It is very important that we find out who we really are

It is vital that we are able to discover who we are and why we are here on this earth. God has a plan for each and every person. He created the earth and everything on it, including us. If He made us He believes in us and loves us. He delights in us because we are His and He is pleased with His creation. He created our minds, our bodies and everything within us; our nervous system, our digestive system, our reproductive system….absolutely everything! So isn't it a sensible idea that when we come to God we can find out who we are? If He can count every hair on our heads do we not think that He knows us inside out? God created our dreams, desires, hopes and wants. He knows everything we have done, are doing and want to do. He knows how our personalities have been formed and how we will develop in the future. He knows EVERYTHING! So, if we delight ourselves in Him and His word we are able to find our self worth and our purpose for living.

Stories about chickens and eagles

I read the Word For You Today daily bible readings. One day I read a brilliant story about a young boy who found an eagle's egg. He took it back to his dad's farm and placed it with all the chicken eggs in their nests. When it hatched the baby eagle behaved just like the chickens. Sometimes it felt strange stirrings within itself but didn't know what to do with them. After a while a majestic eagle flew over the farm. The baby eagle looked up and saw how amazing it was to fly so freely. In that moment it realised it wanted to be like that eagle, to fly high, to go to the mountain peaks he saw in the distance. As he spread his wings he suddenly realised that he was like that eagle. Though he'd never flown before, he possessed the instinct and capabilities. At first he flew unsteadily, then with greater power and control. Finally, as he soared he knew he'd discovered his true self; the creature God created him to be. You see, we have a purpose just like that eagle in the story. This is what Paul meant when he wrote, "It is in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for".

God's ultimate goal

God's ultimate goal for us is to make us like Christ (1 John 3:2). As we become more and more like Him, we discover our true selves, the people we were created to be. How can we become like Christ? By reading the word, studying Jesus' life on earth, by spending time in prayer, by being filled with His spirit, and by doing His work in this world.

God's purpose for His people was not an afterthought - it was settled before He created the world. We must serve and honour God. If you believe in God you can rejoice in the fact that God has always known you. God's love is eternal. Trust Him and He will show you who you are.

You were made by God and for God. Until you understand that, you won't discover your true self!
