I John 1:6-10
Easy comparison -
“Walk in darkness, we lie…”
“ Walk in the light,…fellowship…”
Of course none of us good Bible-totin', church attending Christians would ever consider walking in darkness. Why, we can sit in any church service and know exactly who the Preacher is speaking to. We can probably run the list in alphabetical order!
But notice what it says,” If we say we have no sin, we deceive…” WHO? The Great Deceiver wants to feed our flesh by causing us to think that we are “ok”. How many times do we hear phrases like,” I'm ok. I'm not really that bad of a person.” Or, “I don't have any gross sins in my life. I'm not a murderer, or rapist.” So if we say things life that, God should be pleased, right? Wrong. No matter how you spell it, “I”, is always in the middle of sin. (sIn)
Notice another verse in our discussion. “If we say we have not sinned, we make him a …” If you mentally filled in the word that was missing, then you probably agree with me when I say that isn't something I would want to get caught calling my Lord. Would you?
But of course none of us would ever do something like that, would we. Well, let's ask a couple of questions and see. Have you ever heard the expression, “Well, I can't help it. That's just the way I was raised.” Or how about,” Well, if they hadn't treated me the way they did, I wouldn't have responded like I did.” As long as we can blame someone else, or the circumstances we find ourselves in, then we don't have take personal responsibility. Do we. (I'll let you answer that one)
But in the middle of these two verses is the good news. “If we confess …He is faithful…” See, sometimes it's more important where we walk, than how we walk. And remember, pride makes excuses. Humility makes adjustments.
