Every book of the bible offers us several themes to learn from and use actively within our own lives. These themes include well known items like sin, new hearts, and faithful service. The bibles themes give us a springboard to what God expects from our lives and helps us to see how the stories in the bible still have an impact on our lives today. The following themes can be found in the book of Genesis:
- Beginnings - Genesis explains the beginning of the universe, earth, people, sin, and God's plan. This teaches us the earth, everything around the earth and on the earth is good, uniquely made, and sustains all life made by God. Here we learn mankind is special and important to God.
- Disobedience - In only the first few chapters of Genesis, we find disobedience comes from not following God's plan. This is a choice we have to make as we are always faced with choice between both. We learn even the greatest hero among God's creation make poor choices.
- Sin - Choosing the above disobedience is a sin, which can ruin peoples lives, but living by God's plan makes us productive and fulfilling.
- Promises - We are introduced to God's promises known as covenants, where in Genesis, God promises to help and protect mankind. He also promises to love, accept, and forgive us.
- Obedience - By obeying, we can restore our relationship with God and we will enjoy the benefits of God's promises.
- Prosperity - Genesis shows us that true prosperity isn't in material items, but obeying God. It is there they will find peace.
- Israel - The nation of Israel was created to be dedicated to God. The people of Israel are to keep god's word alive. show what God's is really like, and (depending on your own personal views) prepare for the coming of Christ. These dedicated people are still needed and doing this today.
God started with creation showing us everything and everyone is good and unique to him. He shown us what he expects from us, but that we have a choice between doing or not doing. Finally, God shows us prosperity will come from living by his expectations and sin comes from not.
