I didn't make any of the Thursday classes. I just started teaching a voice class to a group. On Friday my roommates and I arrived and said our hello's to friends and made some new friends. I had brought some cards with my contact info because I have learned than when you are chatting with someone in a large crowd that it is a hustle and bustle and it's nearly impossible to get connections and phone numbers. I just hand them a card when their best friend is dragging that brother or sister off to meet so-in-so that they haven't seen in years (and we don't have time to exchange info). For the 2 pm class I went to the “A closer walk with God” class by Chris Aleshin which became “Walking by Faith with God.” Ironically it applied more to my life situation. After my spring semester in school ended, my car broke down and of course I lost my delivery job where I was using my car to do the job. Needless to say when Chris announced the change in the class, it struck me as significant.
One of the scriptures he covered was Genesis 32:24-32
The point he used was “Faith is the Final Frontier”
- Beyond it all God saw that all the heroes mentioned in the bible despite their flaws they did not let go of God
What I took out of that lesson was that their can be no limits on faith no matter how bad it may seem. Then I had that reinforced by hearing about all the things that Hope Worldwide is doing around the world and about the suffering people that are being helped and rescued. The poverty and disease that people live in still showing hope, faith and contentment. Then the big kicker, the story that broke my heart and then put it all back together again! The story of the Russian women who's 5 year old daughter had fallen 5 stories out of a window. How Shawn had described the mother calling to God, “God have mercy on me!” As she cried over and over, it made me empathize with her anguish. As Shawn described how her daughter came too, and the doctors found no broken bones, my heart was put back together again. Then he described how the Father of the girl who had not shown any interest in Christianity came to church for the first time with his family and the entire church congregation applauded them. My heart was soaring, and I'm not the type who let's myself get moved.
