Take Refuge

Psalm 9:9-10 The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. And those who know your name will put their trust in you; for you, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You.

Psalm 9:9-10

The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed,
A refuge in times of trouble.
And those who know Your name will put their trust in You;
For You, LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.

I remember when I was a young boy staring at a painting, I can't quite remember where the painting was, because I was so young. Maybe it was in a doctor's office or some type of business office. But I do remember the details in the painting. The painting was a painting of a dark gloomy, snowy night. There was also a house in the painting and in the house was a warm glow of light and a cozy fireplace. There was a family gathered around a Christmas tree laughing and smiling. Even now my mind goes back to that painting, such peace, quiet, and serenity, but it's not long before the noises and obligations of life creeps back in.

Believe it or not we have a hiding place In Christ, and He longs for us to enter in His presence to just spend time together. Life is busy, but it's essential that we make room to have some quiet time with Him. Inviting Him into our situations as well as entering into His desires, ideas and will for us. He wants you to enter into His presence without guilt and shame.

The more quiet time we spend with Him, the deeper our relationship becomes. So when the storms of life come and when we have dark gloomy nights, we can enter into the warm glow of his presence and rest in the fire of His Spirit. When enemies of our faith come against us we can go to Christ our savior and find a place of refuge. To take refuge is to find a safe haven, sanctuary or shelter.

I believe that the closer we get to God the harder the devil fight against us, but don't be fearful and neglect to seek a closer walk with Christ. Remember He's our big brother and He has our back. I remember when I was in school middle school to be precise; I was in gym class and at this particular school all different grades had gym at the same time and my older brother was at gym class the same time I was.

On this certain day I was playing basketball with some of my classmates when an older kid came over and took the ball we were playing with, and would not give it back. So I decided to take action, I thought to myself, “Hit him then he will give the ball back, and leave us to play and everyone will be happy.” So I went with my mind, I hit the older kid. Needless to say he didn't leave in fact he came after me, so I ran. I ran to the other side of the field where my brother and his friends were. “Hey what's going on,” my brother shouted! And he confronted the older kid. “Don't you dare touch my brother,” my older brother stated. “That's right,” I remarked standing behind my brother peeking over his shoulder. The older kid left with his tail between his legs. It's the same way with Christ we have no reason to fear the devil as long as we stand behind our big brother Christ.
