“For he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” ( Hebrews 13:5)
I was confined to the house for the second week because of the snow. It also kept my family from visiting me. While I was washing the dishes, I thought about Jesus' promise that He would never leave me or forsake me. However, it was days like this that caused me to doubt. The more I thought of it, the more depressed I became. I wondered if anyone was thinking of me right now. I sighed out of a heavy heart and whispered, “Jesus,” wondering if even Jesus knew me.
I went to the living room window. Perhaps somebody might be coming. Then I saw it- not a familiar car like I wanted to see but something far better than a car. I saw bluebirds in my cedar tree- and not just a few of them, but what seemed to be hundreds! They were chirping and just having a time. My heart was so full of joy!
I recalled again how Jesus said He would never leave me or forsake me. Here was the proof. I lost track of the time as I stood there enjoying every moment of it, wondering if it was real. I thought of how the Lord fed the children of Israel in the Old Testament by bringing flocks of birds to them in the desert.
The Lord knew that I enjoy watching birds and that, bluebirds have always been my favorite. My Lord had brought these little visitors to feed my hungry soul- His way of saying to me, I love you and care for you, what a wonderful Savior! Consequently, when that “poor me” spirit comes around, I simply remember my special blue gift, a tree full of lovely bluebirds on a winter day. I then remember to cast all my care on Him because He cares for me.
“ Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you” (I Peter 5:7)
