One day I was looking out the kitchen window, and the sparrows had caught my eye. They had built the biggest nest I had ever seen on the fence next to the house. They were singing the most beautiful songs, and you could tell that they were very happy and content.
That night, a terrible storm came through, bringing with it heavy rain, wind, and lightening. My first thought was of the sparrows, what would happen to them? Will they survive?
The next day, I hurried to the kitchen window to check on the sparrows. What a sad sight to see, the nest was destroyed, and the sparrows were gone. Silence had filled the air.
I thought of their tragedy all day. My day wasn't the same without the sparrows company. I often watched them play and sing, and they were always excited when I would throw them bread crumbs. They had become a part of my day.
While moping around the house, I paused when I heard a familiar sound, the sparrows were singing! I stopped what I was doing and immediately ran to the kitchen window.
I almost cried when I seen what was taking place. The sparrows, with time, patience, and unity, had rebuilt their nest. It was even bigger than it was before. It even looked as if the sparrows had brought some help with them (other sparrows from the neighborhood).
They did not let the tragedy destroy their spirit. Together, they focused on the solution, not the problem. They simply picked up the pieces and continued to live a life full of joy. They were singing the most beautiful songs that I had ever heard, as though nothing had happened. What amazing faith!
I learned a lot from the sparrows that day. Even though we may be faced with situations (and we will), the outcome will always be what we put into it.
The Lord said that we are of more importance than the sparrows. He taught with many parables of things relating to nature. Perhaps nature itself is a teacher.
The sparrows taught me that the “joy of the Lord is my strength“, and that the Lord is greater than anything that I may face. “Greater is He that is within you, than he that is in the world.”
The faith of the sparrows has taught me to focus on the good instead of the bad, no matter what. The sparrows faith was uncompromised, they were determined, and they had a plan. Faith plus works equals results!
Thank you Lord for the lesson that I learned from the sparrows today, it will have a significant affect on the rest of my life.
May the Lord open your spiritual eyes so that you can be taught. He who has eyes let him see.
