There is a song by Brooks and Dune called “God must be busy.” In this song they singing in the chorus “God's got better things to do then look out for one man.”
This is so far from the truth. God designed us in our mothers' womb. God knows every detail. He has even counted the hairs on our heads. That is how personal God wants to be with us.
We are made in His image of love, kindness, giving, trust, humility, humor, honor, fairness, gentleness, integrity, self-love and respect. We were instilled with these character qualities when we were being made. God says in Genesis 1:26 “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness,” Who do you think the “our” is in the passage? Jesus was there when God formed the world. Jesus was His right hand man.
We learned from our parents and the environment were raised in how to become untrustworthy, lie, steal, cheat, be dishonorable and all the other qualities the world has to offer. We were not born with these characteristics. It is a cycle few recognize much less overcome. When learned these qualities from being hurt, being rejected, being beat down by life.
We have adopted Satan's lies and made agreements with him that he is correct. That we can't change and it is “who we are.” These are the lies of the devil. All the while God is saying “Follow me. Let me show you who I created you to be.” If we would allow God to transform us like he did Elijah on the mountain the worlds views would diminish. We would see what true peace would be like. Peace that just doesn't make sense. We could have joy in the mist of pain, love when the world says not to.
When you allow God to come in and change you, He can separate bone from morrow. His word is the double edged sword that brings our truths and lies into His light. It's like when we turn on the light and look into a magnifying mirror. We can see all that is wrong with our skin. Every line, every blemish and every scar shows.
It is the same when we turn on God's light and look in His magnifying mirror. We see our actions that don't magnify Him, but actually hurt Him. We see all the hurt, anger, resentment and pain that we live by that go unnoticed by us. God says in Matthew 12:28-30, “Come to me, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
This scripture is a promise. God says “I will”, not, well maybe, or I'll think about it. He says “I will”. God can not lie. It would go against every thing He stands for. Think of all the things you would love to get off your back. Emotional abuse, physical abuse, hatred, jealousy, envy, self-abuse, distrust, fear, anger, control, addictions and all the other things we carry around with us.
These bags are heavy. If we would just take Jesus up on His offer, even one at a time, and see that He is serious, our souls would have rest. This would promote the peace that surpasses all our understanding. Jesus is offering to take all our cares away and give them to Him. What a great gift. Who in this world would really want to bare our burdens? Who doesn't have any burdens of their own?
Jesus is holding his arms out saying “Come to me, give me what you have. I can handle it.” And He replaces all those fears and burdens with love, peace, joy, patients, goodness, kindness, gentleness and self-control. These are the fruits of the Spirit, God's Spirit.
God encourages us not to give up. Galatians 6:9-10 says “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. God is in control. His timing is always perfect.
So I encourage you to give Jesus your cares, even if it is one at a time. Trust Him; He would never lead you astray. He cares for you. He paid our debt by going to the cross for our sins. Our debt was paid by His death. What amazes me is that He did it willingly. It was His choice. At any time He could have backed out and said “no this is too scary and it is really going to hurt.” But His love was so great for you and me that He endured all that pain and agony to show us that His love would go to no end to bring us to Him.
What an amazing Father we have.
