Homosexuality is not a new practice. In the Old Testament, we
find the practice first revealed in Genesis, chapter 19. Later we find
additional references in the book of Leviticus, chapters 18 and 20.
In these chapters, the practice and its subsequent consequences,
are clearly outlined. Romans, chapter 1, in the New Testament
continues the discussion. All of these references make it very plain
that the Bible does not sanction the practice of homosexuality.
According to New Webster's Dictionary, the word, "sodomy" is
defined as, "unnatural sexual intercourse between males or an
animal." The word unnatural means it is contrary to nature.
Genesis, chapter 19, speaks of the total destruction of two cities,
Sodom and Gomorrah, which, because of this particular sin, were
destroyed by fire and brimstone. Everyone, except Lot and his two
daughters, were consumed.
In Leviticus 18:22,27, this practice is called an abomination, one
that defiles, pollutes, or corrupts the nation.
"If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both
of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put
to death; their blood shall be upon them." Leviticus 20:13. Thus
the practice was punishable by death.
Romans 1: 22-28 sets forth the New Testament stand on this
practice. These verses include both homosexual men as well
as women. "Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which
commit such things are worthy of death..."
The Bible position is clear. The practice of homosexuality is not
one of which God approves. There is no Biblical support anywhere
for this practice.
