Religion is faith not fact, nor should it be

The article describes how god's existence can not be proven by way of science and that is part of the idea of faith. People who continue to think like this miss the essence of the idea of belief in god.

Many constantly pose the question “We will ever prove the existence of god”. The answer to this question is obviously no. However this answer applies only to those who ask such a question. Simply asking such a question indicates a lack of any understanding of what religion is. One who asks this question fails to comprehend the most basic concepts of any monotheistic religion. The idea of faith. The overriding purpose of any faith is believing in a higher being which exceeds the limits encountered by man in this realm. They also fail to acknowledge the possibility that an all powerful god not wish to control it’s creation and preside over mankind. Due to our having free will, they automatically rule out the possibility that a god could exist. Most importantly though, they fail to realize the existence of an afterlife where believers and unbelievers alike will receive justice for their deeds they performed in this life.

All men depend on food, water and the essential nutrients of life to subsist temporarily in this life, however faith is what separates those who seek out their inner spirituality as opposed to those who place value solely on natural resources which maintain their temporary existence in this world. God has made himself known to us through prophets, scriptures and divinely inspire events throughout time. God does not need for us to believe in him, having faith in god will benefit us. No man is left unguided by god according to most all religions, but there is no compulsion in religion. Some will believe and overcome their doubts while others will refuse to believe which god gave us as our right.

Many feel this free will mentioned above is proof that a god does not exist. However, through the study of religion one finds that man abused this free will succumbing to temptation in the story of Adam and Eve, thus man was in control of their own destiny. God does not want us to be created as robots all thinking and doing the same thing or less life would be meaningless.

Finally the idea that a life after death is possible also eludes one who proceeds in this world based only on scientific findings. Such people drastically limit their scope, only believing in what they can see or feel closing off the possibility that something exists beyond our literal temporary existence. In a world plagued by pain and injustice which seems to have no end, does man really believe that the great injustices that go unresolved in this life will simply end with the death of the world and never be heard of again? This life is a test. It is a test of our faith and our will. Those who avoid the various forms of temptation in this life and do good in the short time they are in here, will be rewarded while those who blindly live a life of evil works will be punished. This is not to say that you must be of a certain religion or a certain type of person, butit is all in gods hands after this life.

It can sometimes seem far fetched to believe in something that can never be proven by science. However, this is the beauty of faith. God has created the world and left an exploratory element, encouraging us to discover the methods of the world. It is through discovering these methods that we can truly discover god and something greater. Faith is about believing in something much greater than anything we can imagine, not proven by science and frankly the fact that man can not prove the existence of god only makes my faith stronger.

"They also fail to acknowledge the possibility that an all powerful god not wish to control it’s creation and preside over mankind"

You are talking about possibilities which is basically an intrinsic scientific understanding. Yet, you wish to dismiss science by simple saying it your reli feelings are so true. Science is merely a structured way of looking at the world (eyes open) and religion is looking at the world through mystics (eyes closed).

And how do you know that? Or do you feel that? How do I know your feelings are more true than the next imposter if I cannot research that?

Although I recognize Faith is very useful at a personal level, a consolation to many, as an organized phenomena religion and faith are the prime and root cause of many conflicts and wars, especially when interpreted as a battle or struggle.

The fact that you have a faith does not interest me, the fact that you try to discredit science in the light of your faith annoys me. Think of science the next time your family member goes to hospital. Now think away all science......you would prey there would be science again.

My point is: science belongs in the world and even in your religion. Why would a supreme being be opposed to that, please explain?

Well said. I agree that science has a place in the world and that does not conflict with religion in the slighest way. There are religious people who are doctors and who study chemistry and Biology, the essence of the article was not about the state of science. The article was in many ways a reflection of my own view of religion and shedding light on how an increasingly liberal society uses discoveries in science to say that we are beyond believing in religion.
