In the Revelation of Jesus Christ to John through his angel to what must soon take place; this was the vision of the new Jerusalem.
The first heaven and the first earth will be gone. In their place will be a new home for God's chosen people.
“… And in the Spirit, he carried me away to a great, high mountain and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God, having the glory of God, its radiance like a most rare jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal.” (Rev 21:10-11)
The angel measures the New Jerusalem with the rod or reed. Note the Lamb of God and the twelve sets of figures, gates, and stones.
“It has a great wall, with 12 gates, and at the gates 12 angels, and on the gates, the names of the 12 tribes of the sons of Israel were inscribed; on the east three gates, on the north three gates, on the south three gates and on the west three gates. And on the wall of the city had 12 foundations, and on them the 12 names of the 12 apostles of the lamb.” (v.12-14)
“The city lies foursquare, its length the same as its breadth; and he measure the city with his rod, twelve thousand stadia; its length and breadth and height are equal. He also measured its wall, a hundred and forty-four cubits by a man's measure, that is, an angel's.” (v:16-17)
“The wall was built of jasper, while the city was pure gold, clear as glass.”(v.18)
“The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with every jewel: the first was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, the fifth onyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eight beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the 12 amethyst.” (v.20)
“And the 12 gates were 12 pearls, each of the gates made of a single pearl, and the street of the city was pure gold, transparent as glass.” (v.21)
“And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine upon it, for the glory of God is its light, and its lamp is the lamb.” (v.23)
“Then he showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city; also on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.” (Rev 22:1-2)
How beautiful and majestic the new home of the people of God will be! There is a condition, though to those who wish to enter it.
“But nothing unclean shall enter it, nor any one who practices abomination or falsehood, but only those who are written in the lamb's book of life.” (Rev21:v27)
