The Truth About Spiritualism

What spiritualism is about and a few of their principals.

Many fear the unknown and spiritualism is the unknown, the unknown believed to be evil. The truth is that spiritualism is pure and good. The spiritualist church, based on scientific fact, has a motto “there is no religion but the truth”. Of course, it is difficult to accept that there are spirits in the afterlife especially when you have not experienced it first hand. Yet we all have spirits watching over us.

The belief is that spirits are in a higher plane of existence than humans are and because of this, they guide us with their knowledge and wisdom. They also believe in re-incarnation and spiritual healing. I believe that we come to earth to learn. The lessons of life can be hard and painful but we must be grateful for them because each lesson learned is one-step closer to finishing our journey.

People who have psychic abilities meditate and ask the spirits to heal, requested by the help of the spirits and the grace of God. At times healing is granted and other times not. Whatever the result, gratitude must be shown and respected. Spiritual healing occurs privately in a candle lit room with soft music playing in the background. Unlike other healing done by pastors on the television, spiritual healing is private and respected. During every church service, a special time is set aside to pray for the sick and needy. Pets have an important role in the spiritual belief and they are included in the prayers.

Spiritualism does not have set ideas and rules like other organized religions. They have seven principals by which they live, varying slightly from country to country. Below is the South African, United Kingdom and one American version.

The NSFSA Seven Principles of Spiritualism: South African version

  • The Fatherhood of God.
  • The brotherhood of mankind.
  • The continuity of life after the transition called death. Life before birth and communion with the spirit world.
  • Personal responsibility for all sin and error committed, and compensation and retribution thereafter for all good and evil done on earth.
  • The eternal progress of the soul.
  • The ministry of angels.
  • The teachings of Jesus of Nazareth and other great masters.

These principles are guidelines with Liberty of Interpretation.

The SNU Seven Principles of Spiritualism: UK Version

  • The Fatherhood of God
  • The Brotherhood of Man
  • The Communion of Spirits and the Ministry of Angels
  • Continuous Existence of the Human Soul
  • Personal Responsibility
  • Compensation and Retribution hereafter for all the good and evil deeds done on Earth.
  • Eternal Progress open to every Human Soul

These principles are guidelines with Liberty of Interpretation.

The Nine Affirmations of Spiritualism: One American Version

  • We believe in Infinite Intelligence.
  • We believe that the phenomena of Nature, both physical and spiritual, are the expression of Infinite Intelligence.
  • We affirm that a correct understanding of such expression and living in accordance therewith constitute true religion
  • We affirm that the existence and personal identity of the individual continue after the change called death.
  • We affirm that communication with the so-called dead is a fact, scientifically proven by the phenomena of Spiritualism.
  • We believe that the highest morality is contained in the Golden Rule: "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.”
  • We affirm the moral responsibility of individuals, and that we make our own happiness or unhappiness as we obey or disobey Nature's physical and spiritual laws.
  • We affirm that the doorway to reformation “is never closed” against any soul, here or hereafter.
  • We affirm that the precepts of Prophecy and Healing are Divine attributes proven through medium ship.

These affirmations are guidelines with Liberty of Interpretation.

When reading these principals one can see no evil in spiritualism. It is the basic rules of a decent law abiding life with trust in spirits and belief in scientific fact. Although it is nothing like organized religion, spiritualist, believe in God the father and not judging anyone or doing anyone harm. Now I ask you, how can this be evil?
