What is True Religion?

The study of Theosophy and its impact in our life. Theosophy is not a religion but is the body of truths that forms the basis of all religions. It restores to the world the Science of the Spirit, teaching man to know the Spirit as himself and the mind and body as his servants.

What is life? What is spirituality? Is the world we see the only world that exists or is there something beyond? Is there life after death? These are some of the questions that Theosophy throws light on. In today's world where followers of different religions seem to feel alienated from one another, theosophy highlights the similarities between them revealing the common source of all religions which is the Wisdom-Religion.

The word "Theosophy" is derived from two Greek words theo - meaning, divine and sophia - meaning, wisdom. The term is many thousand years old. Theosophy or Divine Wisdom is the body of truths which forms the basis of all religions. It helps to understand the hidden meanings in the teachings of the various religions and also explore the hidden side of things. The study of theosophy guides a person who intends to lead a spiritual life.

Those who want to go into the deeper aspects of life, creation, nature and all the puzzling phenomena that surround us will find Theosophy an interesting subject to study. Theosophy is as old as the world or older and no one can claim to have the only truth and impose their opinions on others. It helps us to understand the origin and constitution of man and where we are going. It explains the doctrines of Karma and Reincarnation. Studying theosophy helps a person understand his own religion better and also learn to respect other religions. Every religion has guidelines to lead a fulfilling and meaningful life. They highlight the universal and eternal values which do not change with time and circumstances.

What is the result of exploring these various subjects? One result would be an expanded and open outlook to life and the purpose of life. A person may become sure about the direction he would like to travel in this long journey called life. When a person comes to these teachings early in life, it becomes a beacon light to guide him in all aspects of life. A person can then lead a balanced life.

The most important thing is that one must not only study theosophy but also try to apply it in daily life. Spiritual life is not divorced from daily life. It is the attitude that determines whether one is leading a spiritual life or not. Spiritual teachings are meaningful only when they are applied in our lives. This will help us understand the truths behind them and will strengthen our convictions.

Theosophy is a vast field to explore and one lifetime may not be enough to understand it all. The journey of a thousand steps begins with the first step, so let us begin now. There is no time like the NOW . . .
